Understanding Sheng Ji

Sheng Ji, also known as “Living Tomb” or “Living Grave,” is a fascinating Feng Shui practice deeply embedded in Chinese culture and beliefs. Unlike traditional burial rituals, Sheng Ji is a type of Yin Zhai Feng Shui technique that aims to harmonize a living individual’s energy from the Sheng Ji sites with the surrounding natural environment, the earth, the moon, the sun and 28 star constellations. This unique practice involves burying personal items—such as hair, nails, shoes, clothing and used item, of a person in a carefully selected location that has favorable Feng Shui conditions.

The main objective behind Sheng Ji is that burying personal items contains their DNA which creates a strong lasting link between a person’s life energy, the Sheng Ji sites, the surrounding natural environment and the astrology. By doing so, it seeks to harness positive Sheng Qi (auspicious energy) to bring good fortune and improve various aspects of the individual’s life, including health, wealth, career, relationships, and overall destiny.

Sheng Ji and Traditional Yinzhai Burials

The logic behind Sheng Ji shares similarities with traditional Yinzhai burials, which are the burial practices of  deceased ancestors.

In both practices, the concept of DNA inheritance plays a significant role. Just as Sheng Ji uses the individual’s DNA to create a strong link with the Feng Shui site, traditional Yinzhai burials emphasize the influence of ancestors’ graves on their descendants due to the shared DNA and bloodline.

In traditional Yinzhai burials, it is believed that the Feng Shui of an ancestor’s grave can extend its positive effects to living family members. This shared DNA and lineage mean that the good Feng Shui achieved at the burial site can bring good fortune and auspiciousness to the descendants. Similarly, Sheng Ji aims to harness Sheng Qi (auspicious energy) by creating a personalized connection between the individual’s life energy and the Sheng Ji site, thereby enhancing various aspects of their current life.
